The Motor City vibe shines at OABI (Once Around Belle Isle) each summer. In its 6th year, OABI defines Detroit surf culture. The 7 mile Belle Isle course through the international waters of the Detroit River offers stand up paddleboard (SUP), kayak and surfski racers the ultimate competitive test of stamina with the stunning Detroit skyline as the backdrop. Even those without paddling experience can give it a try in our Paddlerama classes!

OABI draws a community of people from around the country to take in the unique urban beach setting in the heart of Detroit. With amazing live music all day along with great beer, food and cool local vendors, OABI is the best of what Detroit has to offer. Everyone at OABI gets to see what Detroit surf culture is all about.

Summit Sports Paddlerama

The new and improved Summit Sport's Paddlerama features an advance registration.  You will need to purchase a Race or Beach Party ticket to register for classes with one of our knowledgeable and talented instructor partners.  These classes are ala carte and class fees go to support our partners.  Anyone planning to attend Summit Sport's Paddlerama should purchase their tickets in advance.  Day of tickets are subject to availability and can be purchased directly from the vendor the day of the race.

Special guests Larry Cain and Teneale Heaton will have highly specialized classes for SUP and surfski respectively on Friday, August 11th and Saturday, August 12th presented by Paddlemonster
