TRI-IT-KID!!!
Through our GIVE-IT-A-TRI we introduce roughly 100 people of all ages to the sport of triathlon each year. It is in that spirit this event was created for those 12 and under!
The event will be 11:30pm SUNDAY AFTERNOON, after the the big race. PLEASE ARRIVE BY 11:00 TO RACK THE BIKES. Race instructions will be at 11:15.
Also note, THERE IS NO PACKET PICKUP for the TRI-IT-KID.
The goal of this event is for the kids to have fun! This is not a competition, rather a chance for the kids to get a taste of what mom and dad get to do on Sunday, in hopes of helping to teach them at a young age the joys and benefits of endurance racing. It will be required at least 1 parent be there for the duration of the race, and help your child in both the bike and run portions. The breakdown will be as follows:
· 100 meter swim, along the shore line so your child can have the opportunity to stand if need be at point during the swim. Flotation devices are allowed! Ideally the vest type, a swim noodle or something that will allow your child to actually be able to move themselves in the water. A TUBE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. Lifeguards will be on hand and you are encouraged to let your child do this part themselves, though you can accompany your child if need be.
· Once exiting the water, you can help guide your child to the transition area, and help them get ready for the bike. Helmets are required! And make sure the straps allow a snug fit. In order to be able to keep an eye on your child for the duration of the bike portion, the bike ride will be held entirely in the parking lot at PV park. Each lap is .2 miles, so 10 laps will make up the 2 mile portion. As this is not a true race, each child is on their honor to complete 10 laps. It is the parent’s job to count the laps, and guide them back transition at the conclusion of the 10th lap. It is also at the parents & race director’s discretion to complete less laps if there are any safety or other concerns. There is no problem if the child can not complete all the laps.Riding with your child is not encouraged, as we want to keep the traffic down. It is allowed though, if that is the only way to safely get your child through the course.
· Last is the run portion. It will be essentially be an out and back ½ way around the big lake (Woodland Lake), using the same path as the real triathlon. The run is 1 mile long. Running this portion with your child is strongly recommended, as the run is almost all trail.
· Upon return and crossing the finish line back at the PV Park parking lot, each child will receive a small award and a tshirt.
